August 21, 2026 "YOUR BODY IS THE FIRST THING YOU OWN" ๐๐
Taddalympics Week 1 — What Are Your Decisions Saying About You?
As we wrap up the first week of our 18th Anniversary Taddalympics, I want to talk about something much bigger than how many pounds you lost, how fast you ran, how many calories you burned, or how many workouts you completed.
I heard a quote recently that stopped me in my tracks:
“When you are born, you look like your parents. When you die, you look like your decisions.”
WHEW.
Think about that.
Your body is the first thing you own and the one thing you will be responsible for your entire life.
Before the house.
Before the car.
Before the career.
Before the degrees.
Before the titles.
Before the business.
Before the children.
Before the awards and accolades.
There was YOU.
And no matter how successful you become, how much money you make, how many degrees hang on your wall, how many people depend on you, or how many things you accumulate, you still only get ONE BODY to carry you through all of it.
YOUR DECISIONS ADD UP
Most of us don't wake up one morning unhealthy.
Just like we don't wake up one morning healthy.
Our bodies are constantly responding to the decisions we make over time.
What we eat.
How much we move.
How much water we drink.
How much sleep we get.
How we manage stress.
Whether we smoke or drink excessively.
Whether we strength train and protect our muscles and bones.
Whether we go to the doctor.
Whether we know our blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar.
Whether we keep putting ourselves last.
One decision may not change your life.
But repeated decisions become habits, and habits can shape your health.
“BUT I’M BUSY…”
I know.
You have children.
You have a career.
You have a spouse or partner.
You have aging parents.
You have employees.
You have bills.
You have responsibilities.
You have PEOPLE who need you.
But here's the question:
Where are YOU on the list of people you take care of?
We will make sure everybody else gets where they need to go.
We'll take our children to their appointments.
We'll check on our parents.
We'll show up for work sick.
We'll stay late to finish the assignment.
We'll answer everybody else's phone calls.
And then we'll say:
“I don't have time to exercise.”
But taking care of your body isn't selfish.
Your health helps make everything else possible.
MONEY CAN BUY A LOT—BUT IT CAN'T BUY ANOTHER BODY
You can replace a car.
You can move into another house.
You can change careers.
You can earn another degree.
You can rebuild a business.
You can lose money and make it again.
But you cannot walk into a store and purchase another body because you didn't take care of the first one.
Yes, medicine is amazing. We have surgeries, medications, therapies and technology that save lives every single day.
But whenever possible, I want us to focus on being PROACTIVE instead of REACTIVE.
Don't wait until the diagnosis to start walking.
Don't wait until the blood pressure is high to reduce the sodium.
Don't wait until your blood sugar is elevated to look at your nutrition.
Don't wait until you lose muscle to start strength training.
Don't wait until you can't easily get off the floor to start working on mobility.
Don't wait until your body is screaming for attention before you finally listen to it.
THIS IS WHY TADDALYMPICS IS BIGGER THAN A WORKOUT
Yes, we're going to sweat.
We're going to run.
We're going to lift.
We're going to compete.
We're going to laugh.
And if you've been around TFC this week, you already know we're going to have a GOOD TIME! ๐๐๐
But underneath all the fun is something much more important.
We're practicing making ourselves a priority.
Every time you walk through those doors when you could have stayed in bed…
Every time you choose a healthier meal…
Every time you pick up a weight that challenges you…
Every time you modify instead of quitting…
Every time you drink the water…
Every time you schedule the physical…
Every time you learn your numbers…
Every time you choose to keep going…
You're making a decision about the body you want to live in tomorrow.
WHAT WILL YOUR DECISIONS LOOK LIKE?
That quote keeps coming back to me:
“When you are born, you look like your parents. When you die, you look like your decisions.”
We can't control everything that happens to our bodies. Genetics, injuries, illnesses, hormones, aging and circumstances are real.
But there are still decisions within our control.
And that's where I want us to focus.
Not perfection.
Progress.
Not punishment.
Consistency.
Not trying to look like somebody else.
Taking care of the body YOU were given.
So, as we move into the next week of Taddalympics, I want you to ask yourself:
What decisions am I making today that my future body will thank me for?
Because your health isn't just about adding years to your life.
It's about doing everything you reasonably can to put LIFE into those years.
Take care of the first thing you ever owned.
YOU. ๐๐
Be proactive, not reactive.
