September 12, 2025 "Stop Cutting Corners – Trust the Journey"
This week’s bootcamp sessions were full of little nuggets to grow by, on your fitness journey, providing valuable fitness life lessons.
During our outdoor circuit training session, one station came with one simple rule: don’t hit or knock over the cones… or you’ll owe burpees!
Let’s just say… a few burpees were earned.
But here’s the bigger lesson: shortcuts - or “cutting corners” - rarely get you where you want to be in the long run.
It’s the same with dieting. Cutting carbs, calories, or following the latest fad might give you quick results, but when the “diet” ends, old habits creep back in, the weight returns, and the cycle starts all over again.
That’s why I encourage you to attend the Grocery Tour – it’s not about restrictions, its about understanding your old habits and learning better alternatives so you can still enjoy your food, while making lasting changes.
The real key? Stop cutting corners and trust the process.
Show up consistently. Eat balanced meals. Commit to the long game. That’s how you lose weight - keep it off.
Grip Strength = Life Strength
At another outdoor station, I had clients grip the ends of foam rollers — and wow, did I hear some complaints about sore fingers!
Here’s why it matters: as we age, grip strength is one of the first things to decline. It’s what helps you open jars, carry groceries, hold onto railings, and stay independent. Avoiding exercises like this means those muscles weaken — making everyday life harder later.
Sometimes an exercise might seem silly or feel uncomfortable, but every move is preparing you for real life.
Fear vs. Full Potential
Today, during our indoor session we practiced the teddy bear pose. As I demonstrated, I heard the whispers: “She expects us to be able to do that?!”
Truth is, most of you could. The challenge wasn’t your ability - it was your fear. Many were afraid to even try. But here’s the news flash: you’re already on the ground…you can’t fall any further!
Those who truly attempted it? Most succeeded – and surprised themselves.
What saddens me is seeing the ones who never tried at all. Fear, just like cutting corners keeps you from reaching your full potential.
Your Takeaway
Whether it’s avoiding burpees, skipping grip work, or refusing to try a new pose, remember: growth happens when you face the challenge head-on.
This week, commit to:
• Stop cutting corners.
• Do the “hard” stuff.
• Try the scary things.
Your future self — stronger, braver, and more capable — will thank you.
See you in class (and watch those cones 😉) you know I’m watching you. LOL
