July 25, 2025 "At What Age Did You Stop Deserving Breakfast?"
Over the years I’ve asked my clients a simple question: “Do you eat breakfast?” Most say no and look at me like, “Why do you, LOL?”
So then I ask, “Are you a parent?” Almost always, the answer is yes.
“Do you feed your children breakfast?” Absolutely.
“Why?” I hear from them: “Because it’s the most important meal of the day.” or “I want them to have energy and to be able to think straight”.
So, I ask them, “If breakfast is so important for your kids, why don’t you think you deserve the same care?”
And then I drop the question that shifts the room:
At what age do we stop eating breakfast?
Again…Silence!
Somewhere between childhood and adulthood…
We stopped doing the basic things that fuel us - not because we stopped believing in them, but because we stopped believing we deserve the same care.
We wake up, skip breakfast, and dive into work, chores, kids, responsibilities. We run on coffee, stress and autopilot. We feed everyone else – kids, spouses and partners, making sure everyone around us is packed, dressed, and prepared, while neglecting ourselves.
We show love by caring for others. But we forget that caring for ourselves matters just as much.
What Message Are You Sending Yourself?
Skipping breakfast, you’re not just missing a meal and nutrients you’re reinforcing a quiet belief that you come last.
Would you ever send your child off to school on an empty stomach?
Would you tell them they’re too busy to eat? Of course not.
So why do you say it to yourself?
Skipping breakfast isn't always about time, it's mostly about mindset. Somewhere along the way, many adults internalize the belief that self-care is indulgent or unnecessary. That productivity is more valuable than nourishment. That “doing for others” is more important than “doing for ourselves.”
But here's the truth: You can’t pour from an empty cup.
Understand that there are Consequences of Skipping Self-Care. Ignoring your needs leads to you being depleted; physically, mentally, and emotionally. You get irritable and crash midday. You model unhealthy habits to the very people you’re trying to take care of.
Eating breakfast isn’t about being perfect, it’s about self respect. It’s not a trendy wellness rule. It’s about sending a message to yourself that you matter.
You wouldn’t let your child go to school on an empty stomach. Why should you start your day that way?
I Challenge you to start eating breakfast. Start with one day, then one week straight, then one month straight and see how you feel. Tomorrow morning, feed yourself like someone you love. Because you are.
But, Tadda I just don’t have the time. No worries I have two solutions. Hire someone to do your meal prep like our partner Whatskimacooking.com or prep your own meals with these quick simple breakfast ideas list for busy adults.
