“You Can Be Fit & Fly!”

February 7, 2025 “You Can Be Fit & Fly!”

We’re more loyal to our hair than our health. That's a thought-provoking statement. It highlights the interesting priorities we often have when it comes to our appearance versus our well-being. Many people invest a significant amount of time, money, and effort into their hair care, sometimes even going to great lengths to achieve a certain style or look. Meanwhile, taking care of your health, which is arguably more important, can sometimes take a backseat. What do you think drives this phenomenon?

I had a phone conversation with a potential client who stated, “When I start training, how long will I have to workout? One month or two.”  I stated do you get your hair done by a professional and her response was “of course.”  I said, “Well why do you go to a professional?” She stated, “because they are a licensed professional and they know what they’re doing.” I said, “well how long have you been with your stylist?” She said, “six years,” then stated, “I was with my prior stylist for over 15 years until she moved out of state.” She said this with pride. I stated, “you seem to be very loyal to your hair.”  She said, “I am, you gotta take care of your hairdon’t you.” She paused and thought about what she just said, because she realized she’s being loyal to her hair. The question is “Are you being loyal to your health, to your body?”You don't stop going to the salon/barbershop why do you stop going to the gym?

I have a close friend who is obsessed with skin care. She does it all Botox, fillers and will drop $200 or more on one tiny tube of wrinkle free cream. When we traveled, she carried her skin care products and tools in a separate bag on the plane. She guarded that bag like it was a brand-new baby. And yes, she has skin tools, all kinds of fancy face rollers and patches. She said that she would be distraught if something happened to her bag. She says I have over $1,000 worth of stuffhere.  Granted her face looks amazing. Not a blemish in site. However, she has high blood pressure, anxiety and high cholesterol and her body nor her health matchesher face.

It’s perfectly fine to be loyal to healthy hair and skin but if you’re not loyal to your health how long do you think those things will last?

While looking good may be a positive outcome of a healthy lifestyle, prioritizing your appearance as in your hair, skin or gym outfits over actually focusing on your health and wellness is merely a superficial approach.  The most important reason for adopting a healthy lifestyle is to be healthy both inside and out. And when you focus more on your appearance and less on the health part, it’s like using icing to cover up a burnt cake, looks great on the outside but is a disaster on the inside.

It’s essential to remember that being healthy goes beyond appearance and encompasses a range of factors, including physical and mental well-being, lifestyle habits, and overall quality of life.

In addition, it’s crucial to recognize that fitness and health are not necessarily the same thing. Appearing physically fit does not equate to being healthy, as a so-called perfect body can be achieved through extreme or unsustainable practices that can be detrimental to our health in the long run. Instead, it’s important to focus on creating a sustainable lifestyle that promotes overall health and wellness.

Feeling good about yourself will always be more important than looking good. Your outer appearance may change with time, but your inner beauty will only grow stronger as you become healthier. No Mess!
