March 17, 2023 "Get Real, Keep That Summer Body Year round!"
So you think your body is supposed to just “SPRING” into shape because the season changed? Now that the sun is shining and the weather is warmer the extra pounds are supposed to fall off? I wish it was that simple however we are not bears gaining weight to hibernate and stay nourished during the winter months and then shedding the weight because the summer months have arrived. If you don’t get real about your health and fitness, the only thing that is sure to change are the seasons.
Can I keep it real? Summer bodies are made in the winter! So instead of packing on the pounds during the winter months, like a dormant bear; that would be the time to start shedding the weight. Now that spring is here, the gyms are packed with eager beavers ready to try any wonder pill, latest diet fad, outrageous body contouring gadget or do a month’s work of exercises in just a week to attempt to gain results. They're scrambling; trying to undo all the damage from the long months of eating comfort foods and hibernating from the cold. Now don’t get me wrong, there is always hope for losing the weight and getting into shape if you are willing to be patient and put in “real” work.
As we age, our bodies are not as forgiving. The more we abuse our bodies the longer it can take to recover, if they recover. Building the body you want takes a lot of time and effort. Ask yourself “How bad do you want results?” Are you willing to give up the things you love to get the body you want? Here are some secrets to getting there.
1-Make up your mind to stop playing games and to stay focused: Many people get in shape for “something”. The reasons for getting in shape range from a wedding, milestone birthday, or a trip. But if I can keep it real…If you stay ready you will never have to get ready. Get in shape- then stay in shape! Healthy isn't a goal it is a way of life.
2- Ditch the sugar and all processed foods: Remove all the packaged snack foods, frozen dinner meals and pints of ice cream sitting in your freezer. Even that container of fruit-flavored yogurt needs to go. Limit your diet to foods that come from nature. If I can I keep it real...You are what you eat-so stop! Don’t be fast, cheap, easy or fake.
3-Cut the TV off and go to sleep: If you often burn the midnight oil, you need to change your habits. Finish your projects earlier and say good night. People who don’t sleep enough are at higher risk of accumulating body fat. And tend to crave late night snacks. If I can I keep it real...Turn off your TV and turn on your life! Life does not begin on your couch! It begins when you make things happen!
