 Want to Lose the Weight…Hydrate!

The main purpose of cosmetic surgery is to enhance an individuals’ appearance. However, cosmetic surgery can be invasive, and any type of invasive surgery is serious. Also, invasive surgery can have multiple side effects that many people don’t consider or don’t think can affect them, leading to patients not always following doctor’s orders or remaining consistent with the follow up regimen.

Before you embark on any type of cosmetic surgery do your research, check out the doctor and make sure they are board certified, and ask the worst case scenario questions and don’t have the mindset that these things can’t happen to me.

From my own personal history of having my fibroids removed in 2013 via a myomectomy to experiencing some very worst-case scenarios. 2016 was one of the worst years of my life being hospitalized 4 times with (SBO) small bowel obstruction; all because of a decision I made and didn’t ask the worst-case scenario questions.

Many will say, but TADDA you didn’t do anything to cause your SBO, true however if I had known better, I would have elected for my fibroids to be removed via laparoscopically and not by a C-section. Laparoscopically would have been less risk for SBO.

This week I’ve had the pleasure of starting intravenous therapy on two new clients that just had bariatric surgery 2 weeks prior, one was extremely nauseated and couldn’t keep down water let alone food or other important vitamin/mineral supplements. Bariatric surgery is a surgery that helps reduce food consumption by removing part of the stomach.

A common complication of bariatric surgery is malnutrition, which impairs post-operative healing and carries long-term health consequences. Following this type of surgery, patients may require long term IV therapy to fully heal or maintain necessary nutrient levels in the body however many choose not to spend the time or money.

Most folks are only focused on what their dream body will look like and not the healing process in the between the surgery and the results. Bariatric surgery requires time to allow your body to heal and to aid in the healing process.

If you’ve recently had bariatric surgery for weight loss or thinking about it, the procedure will likely affect the function of your stomach and intestines. In order to make up for the subsequent malabsorption, you must supplement with nutrients. Oral supplements may be beneficial; however, many people may still not sufficiently absorb even the oral supplements, or they may prefer not to take supplements regularly.

Intravenous supplementation is by definition 100% absorbed, because the nutrients travel directly into the bloodstream, bypassing absorption issues that may occur due to issues in the stomach and intestines. IV therapy is a SAFE and effective treatment method in this case and helps replenish your body with the nutrients it needs post-bariatric surgery. But IV therapy doesn’t stop with just these types of procedures.

IV therapy is a method of transferring a blend of vitamins, minerals and saline solution straight to the bloodstream through an intravenous drip. So, the first thing you must get over, if this applies to you, is the fear of needles. The biggest myth is that that there is a needle in your arm. I do my IV therapy treatments in an open setting because I want nonbelievers to see how comfortable and relaxing the clients really are.

HOW IT WORKS:

Bypassing the digestive system is the main advantage of IV nutrition. When substances are given orally, they must pass through the stomach and the intestines many substances may not be well absorbed due to poor intestinal function. Not getting enough nutrients in the day can cause malnutrition and your body will not function optimally.

What are some of the worst-case scenarios when you don’t absorb enough nutrients through your gut?

•             Weakness/Fatigue

•             Numbness and tingling

•             Hair Loss

•             Brittle Nails

•             Increased Heart Palpitations

•             Bloating and Swelling

•             Muscle Cramps

•             Death

IV therapy is a great way to get all the necessary nutrients into your body without having to take a ton of supplements and is in fact more potent because it gets absorbed directly in the blood stream. It is great to take it both pre op and post op. IV therapy means that your body gets a huge boost of vitamins, minerals, and other natural substances and hydration directly into your bloodstream.

FACT: It is IMPOSSIBLE to orally obtain the high levels of nutrients that IV vitamin therapy is capable of delivering.

When high doses of vitamins are consumed orally, they often result in gastrointestinal upset and diarrhea. Only about 10-25% of what is taken orally is delivered to the cells. When delivered intravenously, 100% of the nutrients are administered directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the stomach and intestines. This avoids any issues with absorption and allows high doses to be delivered safely and effectively, without it upsetting your stomach. Most people notice that they are feeling better within hours of administration. Vitamins and minerals are the foundation of which cells need to function properly.

Can I get a vitamin IV drip if I’m not a bariatric patient?

Of course. IV therapy has a lot of different uses and benefits depending on what you are looking for. There are IV drips for boosting your immune system, for slowing down the signs of aging, for athletic performance, and even beating a hangover! Whatever your health needs, chances are there is an IV drip for you.

Now don’t think that the everyday Joe Blow is not at risk for being under nourished. The majority of the population doesn’t get their RDA (recommend daily allowance) of fruits & veggies in their food. This is very evident when I’m checking my clients meal plan journals and I’m constantly writing add color to your plate.

The infusion treatment can take anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour depending on the person. But the benefits last longer than the amount of time it takes to get the treatment.

IV Therapy for Weight Loss

As we age, our metabolism slows. Metabolism essentially refers to how quickly your body works to convert food to energy. Maintaining a healthy weight relies upon energy intake and energy output being equal, but if our bodies are not converting food to energy as quickly as they used to, weight gain ensues.

Weight loss IV drips help you to burn fat and achieve your goal weight. Here are some of the ways that it helps you to do that:

  • Restore energy levels
  • Improve sleep
  • Workout recovery
  • Slow the effects of aging
  • Boost your immune system

Losing weight is hard work. You may feel exhausted and run down – and when that happens, your immune system can take a hit. The last thing you want when you’re trying to lose weight is to be feeling ill. Using an IV drip can help by providing your body with vital antioxidants and nutrients to keep your immune system working as it should.

These are not the only pros, fat-burning IV drips also boost your hydration levels, which:

  • Suppresses your appetite
