May 13, 2022 “Don’t Stunt your growth”
Three weeks down and three more to go. I have a new client in this bootcamp and week one she timed in on green team. She has been working out in that area and on that team, however by the second week of bootcamp she excelled immensely. I mean when I demonstrate the advanced version of the exercises, she always tries them first and the majority of the time she does very well. By the third week I told her that although she is officially on the green team, I want her to move to the middle of the room and workout with the yellow team. I also asked her to workout with the yellow team on the outdoor sessions. Her eyes got really big, ME, yes you! She said but why, I am not on that team, they do this and that, I can’t do that. I replied, “I don’t want to stunt your growth!” Clearly, she is doing what yellow team is doing inside and outside because I have seen her do it.
Why do we need to repot plants? I am no gardener, and I don’t have a green thumb however I know that plants need to be repotted. We repot plants to give the plant additional room to grow, and to provide a refresh of soil as it can become depleted of nutrients over time. When I got this plant pictured above, the orchid was tiny. Since I have been watering it, loving on it, and giving it the proper sunlight, it has been flourishing and it will soon outgrow its space. If I leave the plant in the beautiful container not only will I stunt its growth, but the roots will also grow wild, and the flower will start to bend. Repotting the plant keeps it healthy and strong.
Do fish grow to the size of their tank? Most people believe that fish grow to the size of the tank they are in. However, there are a variety of factors that can limit a fish’s ability to grow properly but the size of the tank isn’t necessarily one of them. Many factors in the fish’s environment effect it’s growth. A fish that has not grown to its full size is said to be ‘stunted.’ This means that a fish has not grown at the right speed, and to the right size, for its species. All fish which are properly cared for should grow to the appropriate size for their species, their ‘natural genetic size’ as it were. As a rule fish need:
- • A big enough tank
- • The right diet
- • Enough of the right diet
- • Appropriate water conditions
- • Appropriate tank mates (bearing in mind that some species don’t like tank mates, in this case appropriate tank mates would be no tank mates)
- • Appropriate tank décor
Like fish and plants, Humans need the right conditions to grow and thrive. We will all grow where we are planted, meaning we can and should take advantage of the opportunities we have in life to flourish. And we can like fish and plants grow in circumstances that are not ideal, however eventually this environment is no longer doing us any good. It is at this time our growth will become stunted. You can be stunted in your physical, mental, and emotional development.

This brings us back to stunted growth. There will be opportunities when you have reached and surpassed your level of achievement and it is time for you to advance to the next stage. You can’t grow if you don’t challenge and push yourself out of your comfort zone. If there are no challenges, you will never risk failure, but without failure there is no growth. You may feel you are doing well, but at the same time you must realize you have the potential to do better. Get out of your own way and out of your comfort zone, to prevent growth stunt. And when I tell you, you are killing it and need to move to the next level, trust me it’s time to move and it’s for your continued development. The best way to adapt to this new zone is to do the difficult and uncomfortable things as often as you can. No Mess.
