Treat Yourself to Hydration IV Therapy: The Benefits and Breakdown

I remember as a new graduate nurse some 25 years ago, mixing my first of many banana bags. I was so excited because this was something a floor nurse could not do (it would have been ordered through the pharmacy and delivered to their unit). I enthusiastically learned about each drug I was putting into the bags and how they affected the body. I could not wait to start the IV and see how my concoction benefited the patient. A “banana bag” as we call it in the ER, was for people who presented to the ER drunk or suffering from a hangover. Once the IV infusion started, I quickly saw nausea and vomiting cease. I saw color return to the patient’s skin, their vital signs normalize, and after a few hours of rest, if no other complications presented, they were discharged from the ER walking without assistance. It amazed me how I was able to help someone feel better in a matter of hours instead of them having to experience the dreadful room spinning or kissing the porcelain throne all night.

That same excitement remains with me today! I am still eager to start IV’s (I have a vein fetish, LOL).  This exhilaration has led me to offer IV therapy at the studio.  We now have concoctions that will help people Boost Immunity, Decrease PMS/Menopause symptoms (sign me up), Boost their metabolism, lose weight, and of course Hangover Recovery, just to name a few.

Since we started offering the therapy a week ago, I have helped many people walk out of TFC feel better than when they came in. People have asked several questions about the IV Therapy, so I thought it would be helpful to provide answers.

What is IV therapy used for?

IV drip therapy is an effective way to deliver nutrients, vitamins, and medications to the body because this technique bypasses the digestive system. Supplements are administered directly into the bloodstream, making nutrients available for immediate use.

How long do the effects of IV therapy last

Everybody is different, so depending on your current health condition you could experience noticeable effects for up to 3-4 days after the treatment. Even if you do not “feel” the effects immediately or even over the next few days, you're still reaping the benefits.  You should expect your nutrient levels to remain elevated for between two to three weeks after each treatment.

TIP: Your recovery after receipt of the treatment is also key. One should avoid alcohol, no matter which IV therapy received, for at least 24 hours. And should hydrate before and after the treatment for optimal results.

How often should you do IV therapy?

Some patients choose to schedule infusion therapy sessions monthly once they have achieved their desired results, and others seek treatment only when they experience symptoms.

Why do I feel better after an IV?

A major perk of IV hydration therapy is that the fluids you put in your system will be used to hydrate your body immediately. Since the fluids go directly into the bloodstream, the amount of fluids, vitamins, and minerals in body increase right away. This means feeling better, faster!

Why do celebrities get IV drips?

Recently there has been a huge number of celebrities and athletes getting IV drips.  Unless you were a patient in a hospital or urgent care setting you didn’t hear about people getting IV therapy, without underlying medical issues. Celebrities treat themselves to it before hitting the red carpet. Fitness enthusiasts use it to increase the intensity of their workouts. Plastic surgeons prescribe it to reduce pain and speed up healing post-surgery. There are so many benefits to IV Therapy and now you can feel like a celebrity.

Is IV better than drinking water?

IV FLUIDS HYDRATE YOU FASTER THAN DRINKING WATER…but don’t stop drinking water. When you drink water, you are just hydrating the tissues of your mouth, tongue, and throat. In fact, water is absorbed in the lower gastrointestinal tract, specifically the large intestine. So, it can take several hours after drinking water before your body starts to feel the benefits.

Does IV therapy work for weight loss?

IV Drips give your adrenal gland a boost. When you’re trying to lose weight, the goal is to burn as many calories as possible. If you’re metabolism isn't operating at peak levels, you won't be able to do so. Vitamin IV Drips help fight adrenal fatigue so excess pounds can shed more quickly.

Will IV fluids flushes toxins from your system? Hydration IV therapy flushes the body with clean fluids and helps improve the functioning of vital organs. IV therapy allows the liver and kidneys to do their jobs more efficiently. Your kidneys and liver work to filter out toxins in your body and then eliminate those toxins, IV therapy improves the process.

How long does it take for the IV to infuse?

Receiving an IV Therapy can be slightly different for everyone, however, it usually takes between 25 and 45 minutes for a treatment to finish. All in all, you should plan on taking about an hour out of your day for IV hydration therapy.

Do I meet the criteria for IV Therapy?

Every person must complete a lengthy health questionnaire. Complete vital signs will be taken prior to the treatment. If an individual is experiencing fluid overload, abnormal vital signs, renal failure, congestive heart failure, COPD, or swollen extremities they will have not met the criteria and will be excluded from receiving IV Therapy.

How can I book a treatment?

Treatments are given in our very comfortable reclining chair and can be done Monday-Saturday during TFC business hours. You must make an appointment by clicking the link or inquiring at the front desk
