Let go of your PAST & get FIT
Halloween was last week, but some are you are still being haunted…by your past. If that’s the case then this article is for you, but only if you want to be free. If you want to know the full opportunities life has to offer you, then continuing reading. The joy you will experience when you make peace with your past, will bring you results tenfold and you will wonder, why you held on to the past for so long.
As you are probably aware, sometimes events from the past take up space in your head as if they occurred just yesterday. Memories keep recirculating in you mind when all you want is for them to disappear. You are far more emotionally reactive than you know is good for you, based on past memories. If you know your past is still nipping at your heels, you’re not alone, and you can get past your PAST.
No one is unique to having something set them back or slow their progress; however, it is how you react to a situation that determines your future, your progress and any results. I know this from firsthand experience. When I first started running track in the 9th grade, I experienced “Shin Splints” that were so severe they brought me to tears. I had never experienced that much pain in my life and was ready to give up running track, if this was the type of pain I would have to endure. My coach empathized with how I felt, but told me I was not a quitter. She told me to get new shoes, taught me how to treat the injury, and even invited me to her home for water therapy. She never let me stop training; she modified my workout until my shins healed and then helped me reach my goals on the track. I’ve never experienced shin splints like that again, because I learned from my experience, strengthened my weakness and pushed past my pain. When I felt like I was going to experience shin splints again, I became proactive and that is what we have to do to with our health and fitness. Getting in shape will not be easy, as soon as one injury heals something else will hurt, the goal is to never quit!
When you think about it, the past isn’t really about the past, if it were, once the hurt, pain or incident remedies itself you would forget about it and move on. Everything that happens, happens in the present, it can’t be any other way. Memories of events are thoughts occurring in the present. Anger or hurt about the past is happening now. Your present moment experience in the now is what keeps the past alive. What is amazing about this understanding is that it shows you that the way out of your suffering is always in the present. You can change your perspective and focus on something different. If you want to heal from the past, put your attention on your present moment experiences.
Memories are not the problem. A memory is a thought, and the thought has no power or meaning whatsoever, unless you give it power or meaning. You have many thoughts about things that happened long ago, and these thoughts cause no problems. But some thoughts are significant and not that easy to forget because specific feelings are tied to these thoughts. You have a emotional reaction to them and relive the memories over and over in your head, even talking to yourself in the mirror, or am I the only person who does that? This behavior keeps them very much alive, affecting your ongoing experience.
If you want to be FREE of the past, lose interest in these weighty thoughts. Know that it doesn’t serve you to recall them repeatedly and that thinking they are justified only delays your freedom. Be prepared to take a look at the pure experience without re-experiencing the emotions you went through at the time. It is time to let go of your past, so you can have a rewarding future! No Mess
