What Is Your WHY?

July 7, 2023 "What Is Your WHY?"
 
It is important to ask what your “WHY” is. Your “WHY” is a statement of purpose that describes why you do the work you do and why you live the lifestyle you do. It is your calling. It is your conviction. It is the driving force that keeps you going when times get hard and keeps you diligent when things are going well.
 
You could have a WHY for many aspects of your life. A career path, why you date the way you do, to choosing your next vacation destination.  Crystalizing your whys into affirmative life purpose statements helps you solidify what matters most to you.
 
My question to you, have you identified your WHY when it comes to your health and fitness?  When you know your why you will become more selective of your whos, whats, wheres, whens and hows. 
 
I found my WHY when it came to my health and fitness, January 2008, it was loud and clear, and I’ve never looked back. 
 
I was the biggest I had ever been, I was so out of shape. I was disgusted with myself when I stood in front of the mirror naked. I was out of breath climbing stairs and I felt like a hypocrite as a nurse, telling people who had health issues to eat right and exercise when I was in the break room eating like CRAP. My why was to be healthy, happy, and not a hypocrite any longer.
 
This leads to your WHOS:
 
I had to change who I hung around with. I had to associate with likeminded people that were going to motivate me to do better. My first WHO was my boss Kim, she asked me to join a Bootcamp with her. We carpooled, meal prepped, held each other accountable and saw the journey through together. 
 
WHATS: 
 
I had to ask myself what do I want out of my life? Did I want to stay miserable in my skin? Often depressed? My answer was No…so I had to figure out what I had to do to get myself out of this stuck place. I had to examine my life and ask myself questions that would lead me to understand what I needed to do in order to be healthier.
 
WHERES: 
 
Where there is a will there is a way. I found a bootcamp, but I knew I wanted more from it, so I opened TFC for people like me that wanted more than just weight loss, but attention to overall health and wellness. So, I say, find a gym like Tadda’s Fitness that is not just weight loss driven but a WHY driven facility. Staff that review your lab work to understand how you got here in the first place and offer options to help you along on your journey to improve and move into your health and fitness “WHY.” 
 
WHENS:
 
Immediately!!!
The hardest part is getting started and the easiest is quitting or talking yourself out of it. So, start immediately when you’re excited about your WHY! 
 
HOWS:
 
The how is understanding you’re worth proclaiming your WHY. You’re worth the sacrifice, the discipline, the hard work. When you put yourself first others will follow. They will respect and admire your dedication. For example, When I went home for Father’s Day my sister made my sides separate because I’m a pescatarian and she adds meat to her sides. She wanted me to be able to enjoy the meal like everyone else. 
 
Lastly, when you’re in your best health other doors open. I thought I knew my career WHY when I was climbing the cooperate ladder in nursing. I was making 6 figures, had my own office and I was well known in the organization with a good name, promotions were coming left and right. Yet, when I found my WHY in health and fitness a business flourished. TFC will be celebrating 15 years of me living my best life as a healthy entrepreneur while still being able to nurse, my first love. My business is driven by my values, my WHYs, which is why it is successful and thriving.
 
Having a WHY drives you beyond the short term. Being rooted in your purpose allows you to continue into the future decisively. Your health and fitness will benefit if your WHY is something that keeps the flame going in your heart for your health and wellness. Ultimately finding your “WHY” is finding your rocket fuel to keep going when staying on the health and fitness journey gets tough. When you know your WHY and the Whos, Whats, Wheres, Whens and Hows needed to accomplish your goals or achieve your purpose, you will be capable of shaping your life in the ways you want and become unstoppable.
